A really strong, solid production by Jimmy Fay even if I wasn’t convinced by Aidan Kelly’s performance. He’s more than ably surrounded thought by Eileen Walsh as Lady Macbeth, Michael McElhatton as Banquo and Karl Shields who was so brilliant in Terminus in The Peacock last year. The staging is dirty, relatively minamilist and effective (I particularly loved the battle scenes in silhouette above the stage), definitey one to go and see.

I’d never so much as seen a single youtube of him before I went and that’s just the way I wanted it. Really, really liked what  saw. Full house of devotees, the puppets are hysterical ( I liked Walter more than the infamous Achmed strangely) and he genuinely gives the air of a man not in control of what his little wooden friends are saying. Was told after that he normally does 1hr 40 but did 2hr 20 with an extra half hour of almost entirely new material because he was enjoying himself. Can’t ask for more really.

First time in the venue itself and it’s nothing short of stunning. Architecturally beautiful, comfy inside, bars not crowded even with a capacity crowd, just amazing.

Whip It

Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut and not bad but not half as good as I’d wanted it to be. It’s almost too “indie cookie cutter” and smacks of somethiing cobbled together fromm other movies she liked in the genre. Ellen Page gives it Juno cred, lots of quirky soundtrack songs, outsider finding a cool crowd vibe, bit of Ghost World – it’s decent but could have been so much more.
